Sometimes my children and I play the "Quiet game". It is a game where the goal is to see who can be quiet the longest. No laughs. No giggling. No speaking or noise of any kind is allowed. It sounds like it would be an easy game to win, but when you have a house full of talkers, it becomes a challenge. The best part of the game is when a person breaks the silence and then works to explain why they had to break their silence.
Could you imagine how difficult it must have been for Zechariah to have to be silent after all that he had seen and heard? He has just received the most amazing news ever for his wife and his family, yet he was required to remain silent. v. 20 says, "And now you will have to be silent. You will not be able to speak until after John is born. That's because you did not believe my words. They will come true when the time is right".
How often would you be able to speak if it was based on your believing the message of God? Can you remember a time when God's word was clear and you just couldn't believe it? The grace of God is seen in this passage and in our lives when God does what He says even when we don't believe He will do it.
Choose today to believe what God has said. Don't be silent.
