The Ultimate Family Meeting
Here, Jacob draws his boys around him and has the ultimate family meeting. What he is about to do is lay out their future through his straight forward words and through his blessing. A few things jump out to me in this:
1. Jacob customized his message to each of his boys. He didn't give a one-sized fits all blessing.
2. He didn't sugar coat his words. This meeting wasn't about his boys self esteem it was about them living the life God had designed for them.
3. When Jacob was blessing his boys, he was also blessing the tribes they were leading.
As a dad, I need to remember a few things from this passage. First, all of my kids are different. One-size fits all parenting doesn't work. Second, I need to balance my love with discipline. Shoot straight with the kids in love even when they are young. Third, I need to realize the power of my blessing on my kid's lives. My blessing (as God leads me) will shape what they do with their life, who they influence, who they marry, and more.
