No One Knows the Troubles I've Seen

As in Psalm 141, David expresses his situation to the LORD of being trapped in a cave in Engedi where he has fled to escape from Saul. There seems to be no way of escape from his enemies. David’s troubles could not be much worse - hiding out from assassins because the king has has put out a 'hit' on him.
David is utterly helpless and alone. Not only is he in a position of grave physical danger but he feels it deeply. He had valid reason to sing the blues - “I look for someone to come and help me, but no one gives me a passing thought! No one will help me;” (v. 4) or "No one knows the troubles I've seen".
He had only one Person to go to - the LORD God. That is exactly what the Lord wants - absolute dependence upon Him.

David's prayer is lament - not a polite request; he is pouring himself out to God. In his prayer he expresses his confidence in the Lord: “When I am overwhelmed, You alone know the way I should turn.” (v. 3), “ Then I pray to you, O LORD.
I say, “You are my place of refuge. “ (v. 5), “You are good to me.” (v. 7). David knew his only hope to be in God and he knew if God did not send help - he would certainly perish at the hands of those who hated him.

There are too many times I believe that I can make it on my own strength. The real truth is that the Lord gives me the power to do everything I do. I must continually remember that it is the LORD who gives me the abilities to do things in this life.
My troubles are not as dramatic as David’s but they are real and often overwhelming. Whether my enemy is a person or a set of circumstances, my only hope is in the Lord.
