Faith Heritage
And even when he reached the land God promised him, he lived there by faith—for he was like a foreigner, living in tents. And so did Isaac and Jacob, who inherited the same promise. (Hebrews 11:9 NLT)
--
Isaac and Jacob inherited the promise given to Abraham. The promise originated with dad/grandad, and the generations to follow became benefactors of a wonderful covenant.
Abraham probably wasn't a perfect parent, but His faith in God and the promises given, we're installed into the generations that followed. Isaac and Jacob had to come to a point were they accepted and believed God at His word, but the reason they were able to do that seemed to be directly related to Abraham.
Abraham talked about the covenant, the promises, and his faith in God almighty. It wasn't Abraham's talk alone, it was the actions of his life that deposited seeds of faith for the following generation to later harvest.
It is the job of every generation to plant seeds of faith, that the following generation can harvest. It is not expected that parents live perfect lives, God does desire us to install faith in our children's hearts. Those seeds eventually become actions...it's from the abundance of the heart, their mouth (life) speaks.
I want my children to inherit the blessing of faith. More than leaving them an estate, I want to establish their faith in a God who is eternal and a Kingdom that will never fade with time. I want to be a father who's faith and actions are in sync. I want to help them experience a heritage of faith.
Father,
Help me point my kids and this next generation to you. Show me how, like Abraham, to leave a heritage of faith. AMEN.
