True Compassion

The story of Jonah told in all its chapters is indeed a new insight into how we and God react to one another. Jonah did not want to deliver the message because he demanded punishment to such a sinful people, for he knew that the Lord is merciful no matter our past. Is the way in which Jonah tried to avoid his task any different than when we avoid the small voice inside ourselves?
God being patient and understanding knows that we may always repent and seek his forgiveness, even at our very last breath. If sincere a belief is uttered salvation is yours, not unlike the criminal hanging on the side of Jesus that was promised paradise that very day because he truly knew in his heart that Jesus was Emmanuel.
Just like Jonah's repentance and new lease on life sin remains and he still demanded his own brand of justice to Nineveh. God shared with Jonah, and us, how he longs for all mankind to come to him but it still remains our choice. You can see how even in the Old Testament the message of Christ is present for they are indeed the very same being. The Spirit of creation is there in the dna of all mankind it just has been nourished more in some than others. Never give up hope for a friend, loved one or aquantice. Not even until there last words are uttered.
