Stood in this prison

on a tour of Rome in 1980, I stood in a Rock room, cave like, which was professed to be Paul and Silas' prison. I could not stand completely as the ceilings were short. I believed this was the place. On the same trip we passed a church where hoards were gathered to see St. Peter in Chains. The chains that actually bound him. This I doubted. I did not see it up close, but my young mind thought how could they have that all these years. I wish I had seen up close. But most importantly, at that very young age, I was very aware that THIS (Rome) is where Paul and Peter walked. It was hair raising to stand where they once stood. to see the things they saw, the raw fact that I was surrounded by such ancient history made this my most spectacular European Visit of all cities.
