Peter wrote a letter of encouragement to the Christians in Asia Minor. He told them to endure their persecutions well so that the non-believers would see God's grace in them and be drawn to Jesus. He exhorted them not to submit to their fleshly desires any longer. Drunkenness, sexual immorality, gluttony, and idolatry were to cease and they were to expect persecution from their former cohorts for doing so. They were instead to model themselves after Jesus who suffered and died for their sakes and did not sin. They were to love others and serve others using the Spiritual gifts that they had been given.
We are commanded to no longer conform to the sensual world and the desires of the flesh. Our bodies and minds are to be transformed via sanctification by submission to and cooperation with Holy Spirit. We can become a stumbling block to others in their search for or walk with the living God. The way we live our lives matters to God and impacts others. We are called to be salt and light regardless of the circumstances we are enduring.
We are to subordinate all fleshly desires to the desires of our spirit, which is sanctified and desires to serve our Lord and Savior.
