How overwhelming is the spiritual truth to me at this moment that Jesus is the bread and water of life! We find our communion together as the bride of Christ IN HIM.
Let me explain. In 1st Corinthians 10:1-5, we are told that as Israel journeyed through the desert, Christ was the rock which was split for them to give them streams of living water! We are told that all Israel ate the same spiritual food, and drank the same spiritual drink.
Then, in verses 16 & 17, we are told that the cup of blessing that we bless is a participation in the blood of Christ, and the bread we break is a participation in his body. Additionally, we are told there is only one bread!
Now, as the psalmist relays to us the workings of God in bringing Israel out of Egypt (Psalm 78:15-25), we are told that God provided them water by splitting the rock (whom we know is Christ from 1st Cor 10), and he "he rained down on them manna to eat and gave them the grain of heaven".
What is this manna or grain from heaven if not the Bread of Life! In fact, we are told in verse 25 that "Man ate of the bread of the angels"! Do you hear what's being said?
Col 3:11 - Christ is all, and is in all
Col 1:15-17 - He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
Christ himself is the Bread and Water which gives and sustains ALL life, for all time! Even before his incarnation! These words are spirit, and they are true!
Let's not miss this: Israel took communion every day for 40 years as the Lord set the table for them by providing the bread and water of life!
