Say my name
This description of God has always put into perspective just how awesome God is. This is the God we serve- He's all consuming, "Yahweh, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob." Just in case you weren't sure- this word of the Lord has been brought to you by Yahweh. It almost dismisses the option of taking an "out." Stressing who He is puts Moses in the position of realizing what he's been asked to do is a command from God. Don't argue, do it. It seems like whenever God asks us to really step out in faith and act on a word He's given us, we look for an out. We come up with excuses of why it's not a good idea, why it won't work. So, we fail to act. We sit around wanting a sign and then another sign to "prove that was God." I wonder if God ever looks at this disobedience and thinks- what else could you possiobly want? Some random person didn't say this- Yahweh, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob did! Now get a move on! I think God didn't want Moses to doubt- the task alone was great enough to cause doubt.
I remember being younger and knowing that it was dark outside so I was supposed to be home already. I'd ignore dusk and keep on playing. My friend might even tell me "maybe you should go, it's dark." But I wouldn't- couldn't pull myself away from my Barbies. But when my mom would call and the words would come from my friend's mom- "Your mom said to come home." Well, now I had to move. The word came from the top. Just in case I was going to doubt- no way- mom called to say come home. We need to realize that when God speaks to us, He expects action- the longer we wait, the faster we end up in doubt and fear. We start wondering if that was God or was it just us? Or maybe what He askes is just too big- God wouldn't ask that of me. We need to realize who is talking to us- the word came from the top! Now it's time for action. And if we want to dsimiss that word, well, remind yourself- this is what the God of all, the God who was around back in the day and asked Moses to do an impossible task- He may know what He's talking about!
