Going fishin'!
Jesus, the Rabbi, challenges Peter, the fisherman, to go back out fishing with him. Peter and his brothers had just fished all night and hadn't caught a thing. Peter obeys Jesus even though it doesn't make sense from a fisherman's perspective (Wrong time and place to normally be successful at fishing. Night time in shallow water was the best place to fish according to many commentaries).
When they catch such a huge amount of fish that it almost sinks the boat and they need to call for help, Peter acknowledges Jesus as Lord - the amount of fish clearly indicates to Peter that Jesus has power and authority even over things like fish and fishing.
Jesus uses this miracle experience to inform Peter that he will apply his fishing skills in reaching people for God's kingdom.
Many of us are afraid of fish and fishing - when it comes to evangelism, many of us would rather stay on the beach. Just as Peter trusted Jesus to help him (a professional fisherman) to catch fish, we need to trust Jesus to use us to catch people.
Who is it that you need to cast a life line to? A family member, friend, neighbor, or co-worker? Pray and trust Jesus to help you make an eternal difference in the life of someone else today!
