Self Preservation

Peter and the rest of the disciples had a paradigm about the messiah that was very political. They thought He would save them from the Roman empire and make them a free state…free to worship their God in a temple undefiled by the pagan amendments made to it by wicked rulers. This seemed noble and the Jews were zealous with expectation for their coming messiah. Why was Jesus so hard to see? He declares that His kingdom was not of this world and his death….his everyday obedience unto death was the paradoxical pathway to true freedom from pagan defilement. Jesus staying alive was the worst thing that could have happened to Peter, or me. Jesus had an eternal perspective. Lord help me to have an eternal perspective and to trust you beyond my intense desire for self preservation.
