'The Garbage Man'

8 If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not
living in the truth.9 But if we confess our sins to him, he is
faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all
wickedness.

It's Christmas time and along with my trash can last week I got a
Christmas card with a note from 'My Garbage Man'. As I was looking at
that note....I was thinking how awful my life would be without the
Garbage Man coming to take away my Garbage. Our house, by this time,
would not be able to contain all of the garbage. At first....it
might be a bit inconvenient. We might be able to store the garbage
somewhere else on the property where we wouldn't notice it as much.
Maybe, after that, we could use a lot of effort and start to bury it.
But, in the end, our lives would be effected by the smell and flies
and the awful surroundings of all that garbage affecting our home and
living space. If we wanted to have our friends come over, or even
relatives come and visit...they would not want to because of all of
the garbage.

Sin is like garbage. I John 1:8 simply says that if we admit that, as
humans, we have garbage in our lives....then He (Jesus) is faithful
(happy to) and just to forgive us our sins (He'll say...it's ok that
you have garbage...everyone does) and cleanse us from all
unrighteousness. (He will be our 'garbage man' and come and take all
of our garbage away). It is then that the Holy Spirit and Jesus can
come and hang out with us and be our best friend. After all.....noone
wants to hang out with someone who won't acknowledge that they have
garbage and that it really, really needs to be dealt with.
