Our Inheritance
Paul says the Holy Spirt is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance. The Greek word is ARABON. Do you know if you went to Greece today they still use that word. And if you said ARABON in Greece today do you know what you would be talking about? An engagement ring.
I remember when I gave Shannon her engagement ring. We were standing on a bridge in Lincoln, IL in one of the town’s parks. The bridge had wooden slats and you could see the water below between the slats.
So when I got down on my knee to give her the ring, Shannon held out her hands under mine to make sure I didn’t drop the ring.
An engagement ring is a pledge of loyalty and fidelity and commitment and faithfulness. But the ring also said, “As good as this is, it is going to get better.” Something better is coming.
And God sends the Holy Spirit to you to give you a taste of heaven now knowing that we are going to receive the full inheritance later. Why is that important? Here’s why…
I don’t know if you’ve noticed but life is hard. Life is full of pain and sorrow. Sometimes it is hard to hang on to faith and to keep living right.
The Holy Spirit is in your heart to say, “Don’t give up on God because the best is yet to come.”

For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God's children. And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God's glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering. Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later. (NLT)
Norway’s greatest explorer was Roald Amundsen. He went to the South Pole and he went to the North Pole. When he went to the North Pole he took a pigeon with him. He got to the North Pole and let the pigeon loose.
One day his wife is out in the front yard in Norway and she looks up and there’s the pigeon. And the presence of the bird said, “Your husband is alive and he’s coming soon.”
And the Spirit has come from the Father to say, “Jesus is alive and Jesus reigns and He’s coming soon.”
