The Law apart from Christ
Although we don't practice 'offerings' today as the Jews did in ancient times, I still find it interesting to look at how they worshiped God. As they are the roots of Christianity, we can learn a lot about ourselves by looking at them, and how God spoke with them. (It seems obvious looking back that Christ came to be the fulfillment of these sacrifices, and not the abolishment of them. )
I find it fascinating how Adam and Eve started in the Garden communicating with God, and how as we get further away from that point, worship becomes different (more important?).
Christ is gradually bringing us back to a right communication and relationship with him.
Below are the 5 Offerings found in Leviticus:
1. The Burnt Offerings
The Burnt offering was performed to atone for the peoples sins against the Lord and was a dedication offering of ones life before the Lord continually
2. The Meal Offerings.
The purpose of the meal offering was an offering of gifts and speaks of a life that is dedicated to generosity and giving.
3. The Peace Offerings
The peace offering was a meal that was shared with the Lord, the priests, and sometimes the common Israelites.
4. The Sin Offerings
The sin offering paid the debt in full of the worshippers unintentional weaknesses and failures before the Lord.
5.The Trespass Offerings
The trespass offering was similar to the sin offering, but the main difference was that the trespass offering was an offering of money for sins of ignorance connected with fraud.
