Genesis 1:14: origins of signs
Ever stopped to consider the intent of the day? Not the scientific reasons behind it or even the pragmatic aspects of it (we need a day to work and, as well, an evening to recover), but the purposes of a day. The necessity is laid out here: seasons and separation of daytime/evening time. But there are also signs. I just was caught up in the reality that God made the lights and the nights to designate signs for us, for his people, for the world. He would use this lightness/darkness to demonstrate himself to the Egyptians enslaving his people, to Israelites battling for their promised land, through his prophets trying to communicate to lost people, and to kings and kingdoms. He used an unnatural light to announce our Savior and a strange, white light to transfigure Christ. And one day he will use a bright, flash of light as Jesus returns. And these moments--of which I have named very few--originated here, in this moment of creation. God started with one light on the third day of His earthly masterpiece.
