Wisdom in leadership
These 200 men were among the lot who wanted to stone David for no fault of his. Additionally, they sat down to rest while David and the other men went to battle with the enemies. But, David is the leader of both sets of men and a wise man. Though some may think his principle of distributing the spoil with both the ones who fought the battle and those who did not, would in the future give others excuse to stay behind. The reality is that this principle would unify them -no grievances in this instance, and in future they will all work together to succeed, knowing that failure or success will be shared by all.
Another trait of wisdom exhibited by David here is the benevolence of giving. From verse 26 to the end of the chapter, we see that he sent portions to distant people who did not even know he went to battle, much less going with him to fight. When you give to those you do not owe, you give to the Lord, God -and, He is the greatest rewarder and the best investment anyone can make.
