It's not a cookie mutha, it's a fig newton

It's always been interesting to me that Jesus cursed the tree for having no figs when it wasn't even the time of year to have them. Little intense don't you think? I'm struck by two things- first, we're to be ready in season and out. Not just when it's convenient. We are to always be able to testify of God's goodness, NOT have a sermon handy but have a relationship from which our words and actions are simply the outflow. Second, Jesus is looking for fruit. I heard my friend Haley say one time that there's a difference between fruit and foliage. Foliage is pretty but it can't sustain you. So in terms of being able to feed others, which is our job, it's kind of...well, of no value. Houseplants are pretty but I can't eat 'em. Jesus isn't looking for us to look like we love Him. Our hearts prove it- the fruit on our tree proves our love for Him. They'll know we are Christians by our love, no? Not by our hyperactive worship service or having the appearance of having it all together. Good fruit is just having somebody can take a bite of and walk away filled. Dang, that humility smells delicious. I could eat that.
