Be careful what you promise.
Have you ever made a promise you wish you could take back. Jephthah sure did. He made a vow to God that resulted in, what? Jephthah says in verse 31 that "whatsoever cometh forth of the doors of my house to meet me....I will offer it up for a burnt offering." His daughter comes out in verse 34. He is an emotional wreck to say the least. Like Abraham led Isaac to be sacrificed, Jephthah now must do the same. But this time we are not told that he is stopped by God. Did Jephthath kill his daughter? Or instead did his daughter never marry and have children, which is implied in verse 39, resulting in Jephthath never having a continued blood line? This is not a salvation issue, just one that make's us think.
