Need to dig deeper - I Samuel 18
There are a few things in this chapter that make me want to study further why certain things took place. It is clear from this passage that Saul is still egotistical and far away from God.
Here are some of my questions:
Why did David refuse Saul's daughter Merab? He claimed that he and his family's clan wasn't worthy of being the kings son-in-law but verse 16 said "all of Israel and Judah loved David, because he led them in their campaigns. It sounds like David was worthy of being the King's son-in-law. Was this because David didn't love Merab?
Another question was how would the second daughter that Saul offered to David become a 'snare' to him. I wonder if there is some sort of vulnerable military position that the son-in-law would have to take making it easy for the Philistines to kill him. It seems like David of all people would be impossible to bring down on the battle field. Again, David claims in verse 23 that he is not well known. Is David just being humble here?
I look forward to studying this chapter closer and discover some answers to the questions above!
