God is light (by Musings of a Pilgrim)

Glorious and excellent are You from the mountains of prey. Ps. 76:4 (AMP)

I am continuing my journey of what we praise God for. Today, I am pondering particularly on this word, "glorious". What does it mean? Other translations use the words "resplendent with light", "shining", "radiant one", "enlightenest" and "bright".

Indeed, the word glorious (נאור na'ôr) is actually a verb - "to shine". God is the one that SHINES. Jesus Himself says that He is the light (Jn. 8:12). Why does God describe Himself as such? Firstly, it speaks to me of the majesty and splendour of who He is - He is GOD! No one can truly approach the perfection of God is, without a sense of awe and wonder.

Secondly, what are the characteristics of light?

1) Light is energy. God is the one that empowers our lives. (Jn 15:5)

2) It reveals. It is the Holy Spirit that searches our hearts. (Ps. 139:23)

3) It pushes back darkness. Darkness cannot overcome light. (Jn 1:5)

What other characteristics of light can you attribute to God today?
