1 Sam 20 - david tests saul
Jonathan and David were close. David gives Jonathan a little test for his father to gauge how serious he was about killing David. Jonathan affirms David and says he'll do anything for him. In V 14 Jonathan asked David to show him unfailing kindness... I'm pretty sure Jonathan knew David would be the next king. V.30 - Saul curses in biblical form... You "son of a..." His anger flares and confirms his intent to kill David. Jonathan goes and communicates this to David and then left.
