1 Sam 21 - David's support is building
David is still on the run from Saul. He heads out to visit Ahimelech the priest. He eats some consecrated bread and "borrows" Goliath's sword. Then he heads out towards Gath. He fled in fear of being found as one of Saul's servants was in captivity with Ahimelech. Then the servants of Achish king of Gath presumed David was the king. Word had gotten around that David had slain tens of thousands to Sauls thousands (the information that first infuriated Saul). So David pretends to be insane so they doubt their assumption.
This chapter is strange to me. I want to read more to discover why this detail is included. God clearly has a plan for David and has spared him. It's interesting to watch God's timing in this process. He could make David king at any time, yet he continues to endure hardship along the way. God must be preparing him for something.
