Would it have really mattered?

I'm wondering why this would be a big deal. Sso what they build an incredibly tall tower that reaches to the Heavens, why would God be threatened by that?

I guess we tend to underestimate Gods commands and instead of fulfilling them we begin to pursue our own plans, which most of the time have nothing to do with God. In fact our plans seem to be more about removing God from the throne and placing ourselves on it. We want to be the ones in control, with the final say, and we will do whatever it takes to make that happen.

What would be some good modern day examples of us trying to make a name for ourselves? Maybe a better question is what areas are we most guilty of this? Nationally, personally, individually, socially, economically.

Some may say, so what's the big deal? All they wanted to do was erect a huge building, we have tons of those. I'd suggest that building a building was means to an end: their ultimate goal was to make a name for themselves. They had determined in their hearts that the name God had given them wasn't enough.

God, show me the areas in my life that I'm guilty of self-promotion rather than God-promotion.. Where do I care more about making my name famous and forgetting about your name? Help me to be conformed to your image!
