This chapter is all about an incredible offering to God for the building of the Temple. David first gave from his own treasures to the work and then his officials gave and it was an incredible offering. What a sight! What an expression of love to God. They all gave to God and David's response was perfect. He basically states, "We are just giving what You, God, has already given us!" Awesome!
A while ago, I heard a song that hit me called "Breathing the Breath" by Matt Redman (itunes: http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?i=15069840&id=15069859&s=143441) and it is all about the main theme of this chapter in 1 Chronicles. It is all about giving God what He has already given us and just giving that back to God. Here are the lyrics:
We have nothing to give
That didn't first come from Your hands
We have nothing to offer You
Which You did not provide
Every good, perfect gift comes from
Your kind and gracious heart
And all we do is give back to You
What always has been Yours
Lord, we're breathing the breath
That You gave us to breathe
To worship You, to worship You
And we're singing these songs
With the very same breath
To worship You, to worship You
Who has given to You
That it should be paid back to him?
Who has given to You
As if You needed anything?
From You, and to You, and through You
Come all things, O Lord
And all we do is give back to You
What always has been Yours
We are breathing the breath
That You gave us to breathe
Today as you go about your daily routine, remember the breath you breathe. We are nothing without Him. Let's give Him an offering today. May our lives be that offering.
