All around the world there are various ways of wedding ceremony and different wedding dresses. When I work in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia they have different ways of expressing thanks to those who came: they are not oblige to bring gifts to the new couples. All guests should wear the proper attire for the wedding. During the first night of their honeymoon, when the husband find out his wife was not a virgin he will file a divorce suit and if the wife found guilty of promiscuity she will be stone to death.
In Japan nowadays, many Japanese adopt a mixture of ceremony: "The celebration of baby's birth takes place in Shinto shrine. The wedding ceremony might be Christian or Shinto, and Buddhist priest will be charged of funeral. This mixture is just part of the "normal" Japanese lifestyle." (Operation JAPAN-2005, 3rd Ed.)
The "dress code" will adjust according to where you want to solemnize: Shinto, Christian or Buddhist. Most of the Japanese women want Christian wedding because of the beautiful gown the bride wearing.
Some of us here don't know the symbolism of all the things used in the wedding ceremony, especially the dress code. No one (guest) with a right mind will come in the wedding ceremony wearing swim wear or casual wear.
When I officiate the Chris & Marlene's nuptial, all of us invited, wear the right clothes for the occasion, right? The clothes we wear convey what we are and the message we want to bring.
In our Scriptures today (Matthew 22:1-14; Luke 14:15~22) tell us of the Parable of the Marriage Feast. In Dictionary meaning, a Parable is a story with profound meaning to it: a certain king gave a wedding feast for his son. All are prepare and ready to serve for the occasion. But all those invited disregard the invitation and paid no attention and went their way: 1. to his farm (properties), 2. to his business (job), 3. just married (family-Lk14:20) and the rest seized, mistreated and killed the courier.
Which one are we: the one is busy enjoying our earthly properties (wealth & family) and giving less attention to the heavenly riches which last for eternity, or the one which most important to him is his good paying job.
What did the king do to the offenders? The king was enraged and sent marauding armies and killed those murderers and set their city on fire.
That's will be done also to those who rejected Christ Jesus as their Lord & Savior. They will be bound to hell - the second and last death which is eternal. Their land will be exposed to terrible heat wave which is now happening - the global warming.
But there is a guest that came in the dinner feast that was noticed by the king who is not wearing the wedding "dress code". Upon confirmation the king ordered to his servants to bind him and throw him into the outer darkness.
These group of people are those who profess to be Christian only by name but not in deeds. Those who continue wallowing in the mud of sin and no repentance. A sure place is waiting for them where there is lasting weeping and gnashing of teeth because of terrible pain. The place is no other than the Hell!
The last sentence of the Parable said: "For many are called, but few are chosen."
This simply means: many are called to be Christian, but few chose to obey Christ - in words, in deeds & thoughts!
