Leviticus 24:15-16 and 24:20

Odd that the same God who says that those who blaspheme Him shall "surely be put to death" also says, through Jesus, that all blasphemies (except blasphemy against the Holy Spirit) will be forgiven. (Mt. 12:32; Lk. 12:10, ESV) Then, in Lev. 24:20, the Lord supports (per 24:13) "eye for eye, tooth for tooth." But Jesus, in Matthew 5:38-48, corrects this line of thinking. So, essentially, God says "Do it this way" and then says "Don't do it this way."

Ah, the dynamic tensions of Scripture.

I wonder how to reconcile these seeming contradictions.
