Week 3 : Spiritual Warfare "How 2 Defend Against the Enemies Attacks" "Shield Of Faith!!!"

EPHESIANS 6: 16--" Above ALL, Taking the Shield of Faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one"

1. How important is Faith???
The first two words explains it all!!!

(PHYSICAL)

A.) What is Faith???
*** Webster's states: Faith is belief, trust, confidence, conviction in regard to religion, system of religious beliefs, strict adherence to duty and promises: word or honor.. ( Huh!~!)

B.) What is the Shield of Faith???
*** In the physical: Paul was reffering to them as two types of shields.
1. the small round wooden shields covered with leather and sometimes metal used for hand-2-hand combat
2. the other was described as a door. This shield that Paul was describing in the scripture was a large door model- it covered most of the soldier's body...

*** See, these shields were designed to be drenched with water. Why???
*** This allowed defence against the fiery darts or arrows...
C.) What are fiery darts???
*** In the physical: Paul was reffering to the arrows used in Roman battles.
They were arrows that were dipped in pitch ( which is a dark, thick substance obtained from tar), and lighted.
*** When these arrows were launched, they were a double threat:
1. Not only did the arrows penetrate what target they hit
2. but they would cause fire to spread out through the soldiers and camps...
*** See picture thousands of arrows launched at one time... this was a massive attack.. the chances of not getting hit was slim... but even if the soldier wasnt hit, he still had to deal with the fire around him...

(SPIRITUAL)

A.) What is Faith???
*** The Bible states: Hebrews 11:1- Now Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen!!!

B.) What is the shield of Faith???
*** In the spiritual: Our Faith is this shield that we are too stand behind to defend ourselves from the enemies attacks..
*** Our Faith is the most powerful weapon against the enemies attacks ...
**** What are these attacks???
*** They are the fiery darts Paul was warning us about...
*** The fiery darts are the attack on the mind, with thoughts, impressions, and impulses, contrary to God's purposes.
*** They could be thoughts to do evil, they might be angry thoughts, sinful thoughts, or temptations to sin..
*** Just like the thousands of arrows being launched at the soldiers, the devil does the same thing with thoughts... And just like the slimness of the soldiers dodging the arrows, same scenario, but it is how we respond to the attacks...
Example:
1. The devil sends the thought: You've got to have this!!! It's important for your image and your witness!!!
***Faith responds with... " I will trust God to give me what He desires for me too have, and I will trust Him to help me use what He gives me to bring Him glory...
2. The devil sends the thought: You should have this. You deserve this.
*** Faith responds, " I will trust God to reward me as He sees fit."
3. The devil sends the thought: You need to retaliate, you need to get even with that person that hurt you...
***Faith responds, " I will trust God to retaliate on my behalf."
4. The devil sends the thought: Your sick, You'll always be sick, You'll never get well...
*** Faith responds, " I will trust God to heal me in His timing- Now or in eternity!!!"
5. The devil sends the thought: You will always be poor...
*** Faith responds, " Rich or poor, I will trust God to provide for me all that I need."

C.) Here are some other arrows that the devil might shoot at you!!!

1. Fear- " You have good reason to be afraid right now and always"
2. Doubt- " You can't trust God or trust that God will work in this situation for your good"
3. Lust- " You need to have your needs met, and this is a fine way to get your needs met"
4. Loneliness- " You are alone, you will always be alone, and you, will always be miserable"
5. Jealousy- " You aren't being shown the devotion you deserve, and at the same time, somebody else is getting the devotion that you should be getting"
6. Rejection- " You are worthy to be rejected and cast aside"
7. Guilt- " You should feel guilty about that sin- shame, shame, shame, shame on you...
8. Greed or covetousness- " You should have that, you deserve it, you need it"
9. Unforgiveness- " You can never forgive that sin, and even if you could, why would you?"
10. Anger- " You've been hurt and you have the right to be angry."
11.Discouragement- " You'll never have what you desire or be who you desire to be in this life. Don't even get your hopes up!!!"
12. Pride- " You're above all that: you shouldnt have to stoop to accomodate the weakness or poverty of another person."

***Note*** Any thought or impulse that entices a person to fall victim to : "lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and the pride of life" is a fiery dart. ( See 1 John 2:16)

Note*** Faith doesn't simply refer to just the spirit, mind, and heart..
*** Faith is intended to work in every area of your life-
1. it relates to your physical well-being, your material and financial well-being, your relationships..
2. We are to trust God in every circumstance that pertains to our lives...

D.) The Bible refers to three types of Faith:
1. Little Faith- Little Faith says: " God can do it"
2. Great Faith- Great Faith says: " God will do it"
3. Perfect Faith: Perfect Faith says: " It's as good as done"

*** Important- The stronger our faith, the more we are able to trust that God will: deliver me, defend me, vindicate me, provide for me, and in the end- reward me for my faithfulness...

Closing*** " The wall of defense"

*** There is something very interesting about the door-sized shields that the soldiers used. When the soldiers stood shoulder 2 shoulder with these shields in front of them, they formed a wall of defense... When they crouched down behind them, they were able to move forward in unison and gain ground on the enemy...

***This is important to us believers in Christ... If we band 2gether, uniting our faith- 2 believe God to move in miraculous ways... the devil has 2 retreat...
(Genesis 11:6)- "Indeed the People are one" all one language....

*** God doesn't respond 2 our mournful pleading, it is the faith we have in our hearts...
*** Jesus prayed the prayer " Not my Will, But Yours be done".. This is the Perfect Faith, This is the prayer of Faith that moves mountains...
*** Faith is not what we can do for God, it is about what God desires for us, and around us...
*** Faith is believing God to act out of His infinite power and wisdom on our behalf...

***True Fact***
THE devil's FIERY DARTS ARE NO MATCH FOR THIS TYPE OF FAITH!!!
***Crucial Piece of Advice***
"We should never go looking for the battle with the devil because we cannot defeat him alone.. We must have God with us or we will be devoured by this roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour...
