2 Sam 2-3 - David Anointed King over Judah

Saul dies and David is anointed King over Judah. The house of Judah (David's team) and the house of Israel (Saul's team) are still at war with one another though. Each man had their loyal followers. Abner from Israel comes to David against the will of his men to attempt to ease the stress between the two sides (a little diplomacy). David let's Abner return home in peace, but one of David's men, Joab intercepts Abner on his return and kills him. David is heartbroken and by eating nothing and mourning he convinces the people that he had nothing to do with Abner's death. David gains respect because of this and is well on his way to becoming king of not only Judah, but all of Israel as well.
