connotation

My immediate thought in reading this story is man, I can't even imagine being there and hearing Him say this. I think of the people there being offended at the audacity of Jesus to read that, roll up the scroll and say, basically, "That's me." But if you keep reading, there are a few words that throws this connotation of the story completely askew... :They were amazed by the gracious words that came from His mouth." Gracious. It didn't cause offense. He wasn't cocky about it. He was gracious. To the point that all who heard Him were amazed. And asked, "Isn't this Joesph's son?" I am forever in awe of the humility Jesus walked in... all the time. He was never a wussy pushover, but He was never proud either. I want to be like Him. I want His words to come out of me in a gracious way. I want to walk in intergrity so that when heard, people see Him- His graciousness, His sincerity. We're meant to walk and live this way- with the authority of Christ in our lives but not in a domineering "Oh, snap!" kind of way- in a gracious manner to which the response is "Isn't she that Bennett kid?"
