Jesus is just a crutch.

One of my favorite excuses for not believing Jesus is my Lord and Savior was that He is just a crutch. I looked at the "Christians" around me and saw them using Christ when times were bad and then putting him in the closet until they needed Him again.

From the simple scripture found in Psalm 1:1, God reminded me of how I used to feel and showed me new light on how He is more than a crutch.

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; (Psalm 1:1 ESV)

You may say how does that have anything to do with a crutch. But let me simply ask what are you leaning on? When you are broken or in need of help who is your counsel?

I thought of how I used to feel and talked with God about it and he chuckled that He is more than the crutch, He is our cast, He is our Healer and physical trainer.

So very simply what I didn't see in the Christians around me was that during the time of need when they couldn't walk by themselves they used an aspect of Christ, one characteristic or trait of His Full character. And even better is that He is more than willing, more than able to help where needed.

In the time where we need help standing he props us up and takes just enough off to let us continue. When were are broken he wraps us up and surrounds us like a cast, protecting us from further injury allowing healing. He is the creator so He knows best how to heal us. And once we are healed He does just sends back out, He works with us and on us to get us back to where He designed us to be. Just a quick side note: sometimes when we are broken we become stronger after we are healed.

Who is your crutch? Are relying on someone in this broken world to get you through or are you going to the Creator, Savior and Counselor.
