Anger
What we do out of anger, is a true reflection of our relationship with God. Esau was angry about missing out on the blessing but in truth, he had traded it away earlier for a bowl of stew. This indicated that he truly didn't care about it yet when Jacob receives the blessing, suddenly he is angry and spiteful. Upon first reading this section, it's easy for me to look at Esau and feel the same way. After all it was his blessing and his brother had stolen it. Therefore he was justified in being angry. How many times have I been angry with God for not receiving a blessing. Think about that promotion that you didn't get. What about your friend to whom everything works out, while everything in your life falls apart. It's somewhat easier to look at Esau and understand. But what about God's plan? God revealed his plan that the younger would rule the older to Rachel. Yes Rachel used trickery but ultimately it was Gods plan. God knew the heart of both Esau and Jacob and he chose Jacob. God also knows our heart. When we react in anger, and allow that anger to guide our actions, I think God is showing us the true state of our heart.
