couch surfing as "your eternal home"

Reading through Luke 16 this morning caught me off guard. The lesson of the shred manager has always been a funny and mysterious lesson for me. Is Jesus telling me to rip off my employer?

Part of it is I know the system of loans (much like today) was about inflating the loan so that the lender would receive much more than he had loaned out, and that there is some justice in the heart of the shred manager that slashes the accumulated interest. But there's still more to this lesson than lending policies. Jesus says that if you leverage your worldly possessions to help those in need, when your hard time comes around, you'll be helped by those you helped earlier. You'll stay on their couches through your rough times just like you let them do through theirs. An eternal home of heaven, right here on earth.
