kleros in Ephesians 1:11

Chosen/chose is the Greek word eklerothemen.

eklerothemen is what we call a “hapax legomenon” – meaning this is the only time this Greek word is found in the Bible. So, to understand how Paul is using it we have to see how it was used in non-biblical literature. In non-biblical literature it means “to be given a possession, to be given an inheritance.”

eklerothemen (e-klero-themen ) contains the root greek word "kleros" which means a "lot" - eg a lot (allotment) of land. Such allotments were often passed on as inheritance.

If you find the words "heir" or "inheritance" in the new testament, the greek behind it will be based on the greek word kleros in some form.
