What is Hot or Cold? Are they even saved?
Many people take Hot to mean "on fire" and "cold" to mean far from God. However, there is no reason for this from the context. God says He wishes they were either, with no preference to one or the other. Cold water is refreshing and good for drinking; it was piped in from out of town since they only had hot spring water in Laodicea. If cold were bad, He would have not said that He wanted them to be it, there wouldn't be the option; He just wants us to be beneficial. The hot spring water is good for baths and health purposes, it's why it was such a rich town. When the first water of the year came through the six miles of pipes from the nearest town, it would be dirty, and lukewarm - unusable!
This gathering of people is clearly unsaved from verse 20, there is nothing good said about them. Jesus isn't present in their group, nor in any of their hearts.
Make sure Jesus is present in your heart, so that you can be a great benefit to others, and bless God abundantly.
