Who hardens hearts?
In this verse we see God harden Pharaoh's heart for the 4th time. But out of the 10 times Pharaoh's heart was hardened, Pharaoh did it himself 6 of those times, and most of them in the beginning.
I read this today and it reminded me of what I heard Ravi Zacharias say recently: "When you set your self against God to go your own way, He will not only step aside, but also second your motion.
One of my primary focuses during witnessing to the lost who live and work around me is to pray that they would not harden their heart. I also ask them not harden their hearts.
Pharaoh's example should really help us realize the importance of another verse: Hebrews 4:7-8 (NIV)
7 God again set a certain day, calling it “Today.” This He did when a long time later He spoke through David, as in the passage already quoted:
“Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts.”[a]
8 For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day. Don't harden your heart.
