Jesus and Melchizedek

Melchozedek king of Salem and high priest of God gets almost no mention in the old testament. We know barely anything about him. Yet the writer of Hebrews discusses in length about him and how Jesus was a great high priest in the order of Melchizedek.

We also find a brief mention of it in Psalm 110 indicating that David would be in the order of Melchizedek because be would be both a king and priest. However the writer of Hebrews reveals for us the literary beauty that God used in the Bible as Jesus would come in the line of David and be both a king a great high priest. He would be a king of righteousness (Melchizedek means "king of righteousness") and he would be a king of peace (king of Salem means "king of peace")

We don't know where Melchizedek came from or by what authority he became great high priest, yet he meets Abraham and recieves a tenth of his plunder from him and Abraham is the one bearing God's promise to be a great nation and to be a blessing to the nations and would one day be the ancestor of Jesus. This is cool.

There is a moment in the gospels where Jesus tells the Pharisees that they do not know hwere he is from because they do not know the fathers who sent him.

I do not know the practical implications for any of this but it certainly is cool.
