How Great is our God

Christ engaged in all of this amazing activity right before the eyes of Peter, James and John.

Where?

"After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a HIGH MOUNTAIN by themselves. There he..."

Is there significance in being on top of a mountain? Why didn't Jesus transfigure himself somewhere else?

I have a few ideas:
1) Respect for God. We see all throughout Scripture that people will humble themselves by going way up a mountain and building an altar. Even Jesus Christ went way up the mountain.
2) Quiet. Jesus was retreating to a much quieter place. All of the hustle and bustle of life was down below, distracting. Jesus Christ knew he was going to have intimate time with God, and climbed the mountain taking his 3 friends.
3) The importance of the event. Jesus Christ knew he would be talking with Moses and Elijah. If people saw this, they'd freak out. Jesus Christ wanted this intimate time with them and his disciples.

In the end, what we see is the importance of the "where": intimate time with God and his people.

You may want to change your where.
Above everything, however, seek God with all your genuine heart.
