I was recently reading Mark Hitchcock's "7 Signs of the End Times" book which was very interesting, and the final sign that was explained in the book was 'apostasy'.
This means 'falling away'... which means from Christ. We are constantly seeing man try to make it on his own, and failing. He is rejecting God and the laws that He has made for us. But this is not only happening in the world outside of the church. It is occurring within the church-- doctrine is being rejected and God's truth is being denied. Believers are teaching false doctrine and not living 'godly lives.'
It is SO unfortunate, but it also NEEDS to happen in order for Christ to return to us.

The 'Man of Lawlessness' is the Antichrist, and he will perform false miracles, signs and wonders. People will believe, but we WILL NOT. BECAUSE WE KNOW THE TRUTH! WE HAVE THE TRUTH! (:
We have hope.
We are "ultimate optimists", not defeatists. Jesus is victorious.

Let us not be sleeping, but awake when the time is coming for our glorious Lord to return to his people!
