The Foreskin Metaphor
// SCRIPTURE
"You shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and you."
// OBSERVATION
God's makes the "covenant of circumcision," by telling Abraham that all men should have their foreskins removed. Interesting that this is to be a physical sign when the penis is not something exposed for others to see, yet God sees it as an act of obedience.
// APPLICATION
There are both Old and New Testament calls to "circumcise the heart." In the physical sense, the foreskin covers the glans. Removal adds a level of vulnerability. God wants us to be vulnerable, naked before Him. He wants our hearts to be soft, following God as Abraham did.
// PRAYER
God, thank you for this covenant. Please circumcise my heart and make me vulnerable to you. I ask this in Jesus' name. Amen.
