Him first
You of little faith! Why do we not believe Him? We say we so but our actions don't show it.
Seek first his kingdom. How should this look in our lives? There are two passages that I think sum it up.
Mark 12:29-31 Love God and love your neighbor, there is no greater commandment.
Deut 6:4-9 teach these commandments to your children diligently, when you rise, when you walk, when you sit, when you eat, when you lie down.
This can only be done if we are actually with our children. It is not enough to teach them one hour on sunday and one hour on wednesday.
What if we would revers our priorities and spend 8 hours a day teaching our kids to live out God's law and 2 hours a week teaching reading, writing, and arithmetic?
I can hear the outcry of Christians everywhere. "do you want ignorant kids?" "My wife would have to stay home? We can't afford that!"
You of little faith!
God cares for the flowers and the birds and has said he will care for us. Do we trust His word? Do we believe He will do what he says?
There are a lot of promises that we like to hold God to but are there also a lot of promises that we prefer to ignore?
God promised to bless His people if they obeyed but He also promised to destroy them if they disobeyed.
"For they will turn your sons away from following Me to serve other gods; then the anger of the Lord will be kindled against you and He will quickly destroy you. (Deuteronomy 7:4 NASB)
How can we send our children away every day to be indoctrinated with secular humanism and then expect them to live for Christ? The fact is that 85% of children with christian parents do not have their parents faith. Does this surprise us? It shouldn't! They are marinated in the world and not in the word, which one will have a greater influence? The results speak for themselves. We reap what we sow and our culture is just an extension of the average family.
If we want to make a difference in our culture we will have to look different, act different, think different.
We will have to seek first His kingdom, and all these things will be added to us.
