Slaves in Egypt

Reading through all that Joseph did for Egypt and for his family, I can't help but be impressed by his intelligence, his foresight, and his planning. I aspire to emulate these qualities in my own life (though I have far to go).

But perhaps what strikes the the most is that (from my modern viewpoint), Joseph was not incredibly benevolent. He willingly made Egyptian citizens slaves (and the Pharaoh rich) rather than give the food away. I do not know the nation that would give that amount of resources away, but to milk your citizens dry and turn them into slaves just so they can feed their families? It seems a tad too much for me.

Especially after all the mercy and grace that God had shown the one carrying this plan out, Joseph...
