Government Before Family?
It shocks me a little to see an individual commit to their governing figure before their family. Granted, we are thousands of years removed from Joseph's story, but today we would expect that wherever we worked (government, church, school, retail, etc.) that we would be handed time away from our job to bury a parent.
But Joseph asked permission from Pharaoh. He did not expect to be able to take time away, he requested it.
Joseph (and probably the rest of the world) had a different mindset when it came to his responsibilities to family, Government and employer than we do today - than I do today. But does that make his perspectives better, or more God-honoring?
