Did the Magicians Really Turn Water Into Blood?

I have done a few searches on this question but have found nothing really definitive. If someone has an answer to this, please share.

The Bible doesn't really say how the magicians performed these acts but it does tell us they could not reverse them as Moses had accomplished. 

They never could upend God.
