It's not the worship, but the people attempting to worship God with a defiled heart. it's not the lights, the crowds, the smoke, the great instruments, or backdrops, it's the people hearts.
God is looking for worshippers who will worship Him in spirit and in truth. He's looking for people with a pure heart that will worship Him. Lights are fine, smoke is no problem, but why do we do what we do? We have people that wouldn't move, clap, worship with their emotions if the lights and smoke weren't there. Some people are just acting. For some people it's just a concert each sunday not worship. You can take some of the worship leaders in big settings with all the lights, smoke, screens, backdrops, cool sounds, etc and put them in a small church with only 5 people and none of the other things and you'll find the most depressed worship you've ever seen. These worship leaders are not worshippers but gigers. They aren't really worshipping God, but doing a gig every sunday. The people come in and join the gig knowing that they have a secret lover, rob God of the tithe and offering each sunday, fornicate, get drunk every weekend and then come in and act like they are worshipping God.
The problem is not the stuff we use to worship God, its US! We must get back to the heart of worship. Can you worship God with a life of purity, can you worship him with the right motives, can you worship him in small settings without all the stuff?
We should check ourselves to make sure we are worshipping the creator and not the creature.
sorry for all the typos.
