God's Mis-Direction
"Now when Pharaoh had let the people go, God did not lead them by the way of the land of the Philistines even though it was near; for God said, "The people might change their minds when they see war, and return to Egypt." Hence God led the people around by the way of the wilderness to the Red Sea; and the sons of Israel went up in martial array from the land of Egypt." (Exodus 13:17, 18 NASB)
Seems like it happens all the time. Heck, I can think of countless times in my own life where I've felt like I've had some concept, some small semblance of an idea on where God was taking me, when all of the sudden everything goes plaid. The whole world seems to be topsy-turvy, moving me in a completely different direction. Do you ever feel like that? Like God is misdirecting you away from the very place he's called you to go?
But maybe it's those times when God is doing what he did to the Israelites. Maybe from his vantage point he can see the obstacles ahead, the things that would completely discourage us and turn us away from that ultimate destination. And as I would do for my son, he steers us in a different direction, around that particular obstacle.
Father God, when things go pear-shaped in life, help me to stop and to remember that you've got the situation under control, whatever it is. That you're bigger than me. That you're bigger than my problems. Remind me that perhaps this is your way of moving me closer to my "promised land." Help me to trust you in all things...
