Solomon had it pretty cozy. How bad could it be being the newly minted King?
But Solomon knew he needed more than just genes to be a good ruler, and he went to God with his desire to be wise. It was smart for him to understand that he knew little.
His prayer should be an example to us all.
Contrast this with the foolishness exhibited later by Solomon's son Rehoboam. His unwise acts when he ascended the throne ultimately caused an uprising which split the kingdom.
