Jesus got Balaam's attention through a talking donkey, and then God used Balaam to bless Israel instead of curse them like Balak wanted, but just because he did a good thing doesn't mean he was a man of God.
"They also killed Balaam son of Beor with the sword."
Balaam must have continued to live his "magical" "superstitious" "pagan" life even after being spoke to by God and used by God if he was with the Midianites.
So much potential, but in the end, Balaam died because of the lifestyle he chose to continue living.
