Who becomes a Christian?
Throughout the book of Acts there are references to the word of God spreading. The spread of the Gospel was unparalleled. Historians describe the growth of the Early Church with words like “wildfire” and “contagious.” The message of the Gospel was not prejudiced to any culture or status of people. In our verse today, you see that even “a large number of priests became obedient to the faith.” My point is that the gospel won the wealthy and the poor, the powerful and the week, the young and the old, the black, yellow, white, and even its enemies. God desires that all come to know His love and grace expressed in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Any and all can and do become Christians. This has been true for 2,000 years. In a small way I have seen this to be true in my own life. I have seen the Spirit of God radically change the hearts of all kinds of people in my life. I have seen religious and atheists come to the cross of Jesus. I have seen Americans and Haitians alike find their hope and salvation in Jesus. So, the point of this entire devotion is to remind us that no-one is excluded. The message of the kingdom of God is inclusive. It invites all to come, see, and know Jesus. Oh, and by the way, that “all” includes you!
Peace!
