The Past Has No Future.

Nostalgia is an obsession for an unattainable past. People tend to live in two directions - some live fantasying a future - others live dreaming of days-gone-bye. Neither is productive. The past has no future. The future is speculation.

There isn't wisdom in nostalgia because the past always looks purer in black and white. Have you noticed how we have selective memory when it comes to yesterday? Those days are gone.

I grew up watching the TV sitcom "Happy Days". I couldn't wait until Tuesday evenings at 7 PM. I loved it. We couldn't record it - not by Tivo, DVR, not even by video cassette. I remember the day that I realized that my mother was a teenager during the 50's - during "Happy Days". I went to her and exclaimed, "Mom, you were a teenager during "Happy Days". How was it? What was it like to grow up during "Happy Days"! She replied, "They weren't that happy."

There isn't wisdom in fantasying about the future. Don't get me wrong - I believe in strategy, careful planning, and even having a hope. Fantasying is when you dream up something that you never "plant a seed of increase" to have. Solomon advised, "A sluggard does not plow in season; so at harvest time he looks but finds nothing."

Live today. Today, do something. Today, make life count. We have a "Now" faith. Now is the time. What will you do today that counts?
