Who we are in Relationship to Who He is

James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting. – James 1:1
James had an honor not many of us could share. He was the very brother of Jesus (Matthew 13:55). Think about that: to come from the same womb as the Savior. While other kids at school added Jesus as a friend on Facebook, James had the privilege of being in the family photo album with Him. If we were in James’ shoes, the qualifications section on our resume would read Jesus’ younger brother. That’s not the case with James. He didn’t introduce Himself as Yahweh’s brother; He chose to call Himself a servant of the Omnipotent. James was in the perfect place to exercise stature and relationship, but He chose a different road. James understood what many Christians do not: God is not stuck on relationships or rank; He’s concerned with anointing and accountability. You are only anointed to do what you are appointed to do. James was not anointed to walk into Heaven on blood bonds alone; He was anointed to tell others on the bond that the Blood gives alone. He was more at peace knowing that He was under God rather than bragging on being equal with God. May we all put that down on our application for Heaven’s Ambassador’s on Earth: yes, we are related to the Owner of the company, but that relationship anoints us to be His servant.
